These dogs appeared in the 16th century perhaps as a cross of the Tibetan Lhasa Apso and the Pekingese. These small and affectionate creatures became popular in the Chinese Court and they were refused to sell to the west until 1930. Shih Tzu kennels will usually be owned by a conscientious breeder.
