This breed appeared as a result of the Pekingese and the Tibetan Lhasa Apso mix in the 16th century. Cute dogs of this breed were highly valued in the Imperial Chinese Court and were not sold to the west until 1930.

Life expectancy for the breed is 11-14 years, but they can live up to 15 years. Animals of this breed are very active and full of energy; they like to play active games with their masters.
